MAXIwheel™ Compact
mwcompactthumb.jpg
Jacobsen's MAXIwheel™ Compact is a manually operated system for off-line random inspection as well as 100% inspection of cast light-metal wheels. The system is specially designed for industrial applications with tight space constraints.

The wheel manipulator has 5 motion axes that are driven by high dynamic servo motors. The x-ray imaging system is chosen according to customer specification. The system can be equipped with an image intensifier system, digital flat panel detector or digital CMOS line scan detector, or any combination thereof.

The system can be installed on the deck next to any casting machine or any wheel transport conveyor. The system loads and unloads wheels on the same side.

Applications

Off-line inspection of aluminum wheels up to 27 inches

In the basic version the wheel load/unload is done manually by the operator that does not lift the wheel. The wheel lifter would be placed on the deck next to any casting machine or at the end of a section of conveyor, which would be fed from the main conveyor. When a wheel needs to be inspected, the operator would pull the wheel from the main conveyor onto the transfer conveyor, and then push it onto the lifter conveyor. The operator would push the pedal; the lifter will lift the wheel and tilt the wheel into the machine.

In manual mode of operation movement of the wheel is done using joysticks. Other parameters like (kV, mA, change of image intensifier input field etc.) and values are adjusted via touch screen interface. The operator then releases the pedal; the lifter returns home and waits for the machine to tilt the wheel onto the lifter again. Once the wheel exits the cabinet, it rolls onto the lifter and onto the feed off conveyor, where the operator can push it back onto the main conveyor.

The system can be upgraded to semi-automated mode where the operator records and plays inspection cycle programs and where loading and positioning of the wheel in the x-ray beam will be executed automatically.
